Akamai Technologies is an American company specializing in content delivery network (CDN), cybersecurity, DDoS mitigation, and cloud services. The company, headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, operates a global network of servers available for rent to customers operating websites and other web services.
The company derived its name from the Hawaiian term "akamai," signifying "clever" or colloquially "cool." Co-founder Daniel M. Lewin discovered the term in a Hawaiian-English dictionary following a colleague's suggestion.
In 1998, Akamai Technologies participated in the MIT $50K competition, presenting a business proposal based on their research on consistent hashing, and was subsequently chosen as a finalist. They successfully developed a working prototype by August 1998 and, with the assistance of Jonathan Seelig and Randall Kaplan, proceeded to incorporate the company, officially established on August 20, 1998.
During late 1998 and early 1999, a cohort of business professionals and scientists joined the founding team. Notably, Paul Sagan, former president of New Media for Time Inc., and George Conrades, former chairman and CEO of BBN Corp. and senior VP of US operations for IBM, became part of the team. Conrades assumed the role of CEO of Akamai in April 1999. The company launched its commercial service in April 1999 and was subsequently listed on the NASDAQ Stock Market on October 29, 1999.

- Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, PowerShell, or Bash)
- Effective problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong ability to collaborate in a team environment
- Keen interest in continuous learning and expanding proficiency in cloud technologies
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Preferred experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Relevant certifications in cloud computing or related areas are advantageous
