Postman began in 2012 as a side project for software engineer Abhinav Asthana, who sought to make API testing easier while working at Yahoo Bangalore. He called his program Postman - a play on the API request "POST" - and made it available for free via Chrome Web Store.
As the app's usage increased to 500,000 users without any marketing, Abhinav enlisted the support of old colleagues Ankit Sobti and Abhijit Kane to launch Postman Inc. The company is now led by its three co-founders, with Abhinav as CEO and Ankit as CTO.
In 2023, Postman announced that it has acquired Akita, an API observability solution. In 2024, Postman bought Orbit, a developer community creation and management service. Postman is privately held and funded by Nexus Venture Partners, CRV, Insight Partners, Coatue, Battery Ventures, and Mary Meeker's BOND. In May 2015, the startup secured a $1 million seed investment. Postman raised a $225 million Series D round in August 2021, with a valuation of $5.6 billion.

- Proficiency in both written and verbal communication.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

- Deep understanding of fundamental cloud computing concepts and principles
- Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, PowerShell, or Bash)
- Effective problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong ability to collaborate in a team environment
- Keen interest in continuous learning and expanding proficiency in cloud technologies
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Preferred experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Relevant certifications in cloud computing or related areas are advantageous
