Earl Bakken and his brother-in-law, Palmer Hermundslie, started Medtronic as a medical equipment repair firm in Minneapolis in 1949. Bakken invented various medical technology products that are being utilized today all around the world.
Bakken met C. Walton Lillehei, a cardiothoracic surgeon at the University of Minnesota Medical School, through his repair business. The flaws of the artificial pacemakers of the time were brutally exposed after a power outage on Halloween in 1957 that affected significant portions of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. A Lillehei paediatric kid with a pacemaker died as a result of the blackout. Lillehei met with Bakken the next day to discuss the development of a battery-powered pacemaker. Bakken altered the design of a transistorized metronome to develop the first battery-powered external pacemaker. It fit in a four-inch-square box that could be taped to a patient's chest, transmit electric impulses to the heart through cables that traveled through the patient's chest, and was removable.

- Deep understanding of fundamental cloud computing concepts and principles
- Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, PowerShell, or Bash)
- Effective problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong ability to collaborate in a team environment
- Keen interest in continuous learning and expanding proficiency in cloud technologies
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Preferred experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Relevant certifications in cloud computing or related areas are advantageous
